Keevil 19 July 2015

Still coming to terms with the recent death of Lesley's husband Ed, the choir nonetheless kept its commitment to perform with the Keevil Singers in Wiltshire on Sunday 19 July.

We were warmly greeted by the rector, Jane Knowles, an old friend of Lesley's and the Keevil choir's conductor, and shared an improvised stage in the church - health and safety experts got a bit nervous but the men survived! - with this friendly local choir. Keith, Jane and Amanda managed the task of accompanying, performing and conducting between them in Lesley's absence; the choirs sang separately, and then together for The Sound of Silence; soloists and instrumentalists from both choirs performed well; and the audience was enthusiastically appreciative. It is however probably true that the most memorable part of the afternoon was the magnificent tea laid out for us afterwards and stretching the length of the village hall. There was no atmosphere of competition musically, but when it comes to a return visit from Keevil to Witney - well, the refreshments might be another matter....
